AWAHURI STOCK SALE.

Messrs otevens and Gorton report that at their sec >nd sale at their newlyestablished Awahuri yards yesterday, 150 head of cattle, and 600 sheep were yarded. Quotations wore as follows : Cattle. — Fat bullocks, £7 5s ; heifers and calves, £3 bs ; weaners, 25s to 35s ; 3 year-old bullocks, £4 5s to £4 15s ; 2 year-old steers, £3 to £3 10s ; cows and calves, £3 to £3 10s* Sheep. — Prime fat wethers, 12s ; good fat wethera, 10s ; lambs m wool, 5s to 6s 6d ; store ewes, 5s to 7s. Horses. — (scrnbbers) from 30a to £5. Not many lots were quitted under the hammer, but every head was disposed of privately afterwards. The effect of the universal drought was to lower prices materially, as feed on many properties is entirely scorched up. Complaints of scarcity of pasture are universal, and only m the most sheltered localities is there room for store stock. The attendance at the sale was very fair, considering that harvesting is m full swing all over the district. The capital conntiucti n of the yards w is the theme of general remark, many affirming that thi-.y are the best yards on the coast, comprising as they do cattle-yards, sheep and pig pens, sheep- race, and eve*y other convenience. The sheep race is much used by settlers, no charge being m ide. Tha yards are being medalled with a thickcoat of good gravel, and by winter thay will be m « condition that will compare favourably with the salcyards even m Wanganui. The auctioneers note with satis fiction,, that the Awahuri Bales are increasing m favour, t\\v settlers giving them a very liberal support. The yards are very centrally situated, being easily accessible to all parts of the district. Very successful sales are looked for* ward to at toe Awahuri yards as time advances.
