In a case which is proceeding at the Dublin Police Court, startling disclosures have been made by informers regarding the history and movements of what is known as as the “ inner circle ” of assassins in Dublin. Evidence has also been given of the fact that at different times three attempts were made by the members of the organisation to assassinate Mr W. E. Forster when he was Chief Secretary for Ireland.

The death is announced to-day of Gustave Dore, the well known French Artist, aged 51. A political panic has occurred at Paris. Prince Eugene has arrived, and challenges expulsion. More arrests of assassins have been made at Dublin. A man, named De Laney confesses to have directed a shot at Judge Lawson. The officers of the steamer Sultan have been arrested in Germany, it being alleged they they deserted the Cimbria after colliding with her. A Russian force is marching on Merv. Jan. 24.

At a meeting at the Colonial Institute last night, a paper by Sir Wm. Fox, on New Zealand affairs was read. It-deplored the impolicy of promises made to the Maories by the treaty of Waitangi, and entered at length on the Native question from the foundation of the Colony to the present time. The paper justified the confiscation of the Native lands as a punishment for rebellion and as a necessary security for life and the preservation of peace. T. M.Heley, M.P. for Wexford, Michael Davitt, and Quinn, leaders of the Irish National League, who were summoned last month for making seditious speeches, have been again brought up for trial. The case closed to-day, and defendants were required to find heavy bail that they would keep the peace, or undergo six months’ imprisonment each. Mr O’Brien, Nationalist, has been returned for Mallow, Ireland, defeating the other candidate, an avowed Government supporter, by a considerable majority. Cape Town, Jan 24.

Intelligence is to hand from Zululand that Cetewayo has arrived at Clundi, and that the ceremony of reinstatement will take place immediately. . Paris, Jan. 23.

A Committee has been elected by the Chamber of Deputies to consider the bill introduced by the Minister of the Interior to provide measures to pvevent the issue of a Bonapartist manifesto. The majority of the members of the Committee are in favor of the immediate expulsion of the members of the Bonapartist families from France. It is understood that there is to be a discussion in the Cabinet as to the course which should be pursued in dealing with the Bonapartist question. The Bonapartist agitation is causing considerable disquiet throughout France at the present time and an uneasy feeling is increasing. Jan. 24.

The Empress Eugenie, having succeeded in reuniting the Bonapartist party, returned to-day to London. AUSTRALIAN. Melbourne, Jan. 24. Arrived this afternoon—The P. and 0. Co.’s s.s.
