HAVELOCK SUBURBAN SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

At the annual meeting of householders in the Havelock Suburban School District, held in the Schoolhouse, on Monday. January 22, at 7 p.m., Mr J. A. Moore in the chair, the following Keoort was presented: “ To the Householders in the Havelock Suburban School District. . “ Kaituna Valley, Jan. 22, 1883 w “ Gentlemen,—The school was opened by the Bclioolmaster, Mr H. L. Severne, on 23rd Jan., 1882, and closed on 21st December, 1882. “The average attendance of the children at school for the past year was—--26 for the quarter ending March 31 25 „ ~ June 31) 25 September 30 23 „ ~ ' December 3» “ The last quarter has been the worst we have had to record ; but it was owing to so many of the children being ill with the measles, colds, &c., of which our worthy schoolmaster had his share.

“ The school children were examined by the Inspector on Monday, 9th October last, with the following result All on the roll (31) were present; 7 were sent up and 6 passed Standard III.; 6 were sent up and all passed Standard II.; 4 were sent up and all passed Standard I. “The retiring Committee- have cleared the school ground of most of the unsightly stumps of tr es at a cost of £4, and have written to the Education Board, Blenheim, asking them to build two sheds, one for the boys to dine in in wet weather, and the other for the use of the schoolmaster.

“ Our annual tea party in connection with the school took place on December 28th, when be--50 and 50 children sat down to the tea provided for them by their parents and others.. In the evening of the same day the Christmas prizes were presented to the successful scholars by the schoolmaster, Mr Severne. Theorizes were 27 in number, and cost little-oveir £5. This amount was partly made by subscription, the, balance out of the Committee’s fund. “ The retiring Committee have nominated Mr George Henderson to fill one of the vacancies in the Education Board. He was the only gentleman that sent his consent to be so nominated. “ The balanee-sheet shows a balance of cash in band of £3 6s (Mr A 5. McMillan; Auditor), and there is 15s due from unpaid subscriptions. “ The Committee are clear of any outstanding debts. The school, dwelliughouse, &c., are all in thorough repair.” After the Report and Balance-sheat had been read and adopted, the following gentlemen were elected to form the new Committee for the current year John A. Moore, F. B. Rush, John Blake, J. McDowell, A,. Pulman, Gp.,Kite A William Swafford.
