CHURCH MEETING.

On Monday evening last the annual meeting of the member-* of the Church of England f..»r the Parish of Picton was held at the Town Hall; the Hew T. L Tudor in the chair. The following Report and Accounts for the past year were read and adopted : Churchwardens’ Retort for Year ending Easter, 1870. In presenting a Report for the past year, we are glad to tie able to state that we have a balance on general account of £ll 2s 3d, and on petty cash account of £3 17s fid, being.a total sum of £ls to hand over to our successors to commence die new year upon. The Reading-desk has been altered and en- - larged (Mr Seymour providing timber) ; and Mrs Seymour having furnished it witli b«ndsome new cushion and hangings, the large Bible and Prayer hook formerly presented to the ; Church by Messrs Richardson and Seymour are now enabled to he used. J 'l'lie Harmonium lias been sent to Wellington . to he tuned, which it stood much in need of. The Offertory Inis been well maintained, being ' nearly £23 in excess of ihe preinus year. The pew rents have also been well kept up. ; We regret the departure from amongst us of Mr F. Downes, who for six months held the ’ office of your Cuurchwarden ; ul.*o Mrs Brough- ’ ton, who so long, ably, and gratuitously filled the I Organist’s chair. Harris, Card, Gtcensill, Card, and Watts were appointed Vestrymen Resolutions of % he Standing Commiltco respecting the raising of a quarterly subscription throughout the Diocese from members of the Church for the following objects, viz , mainlcnaneo of clergy, church extension, church buildings, and general church purposes, and al.-o a letter from the bishop of Nelson in connection will) the same, were then read.
