The market has remained very quiet since the close of last sales, and the purchases made have been of the most limited character ; a few descriptions, mostly warranted for immediate consumption. have sold at a profit, but beyond hand to mouth requirements there is no inquiry. The arrivals are already very large for the next series, which are expected to commence on the 11th May, consisting of 14,085 bales. Sydney; 41,959 hales, Port Phillip ; 2725 bales, VanDieman’s Land ; 16,183 bales, Adelaide ; 997 bales, Swan River ; 64,56 bales, New Zealand : 14,556 bales, Cape ; total, 26,952 bales. It is expected that 45,000 bales more will arrive in time ; if so, we shall have a very large and important sale ; the total may be estimated, therefore, at 14,000 bales. The trade at most of the northern markets is not very good, and although at Leeds and Huddersfield there is a fair business, it is not equal to our expectations, while at Bradford the market is very Jquiet. and coming wool {depressed. The accounts from the continent are not very assuring. Spinners have been sellers of yarn at little or no profit, and without trade revives we cannot expect such strong support for export at the existing sales and the Home traders are not oxpcctcd to buy liberally,; except at a reduction on present rates.
