Welcome, your Excellency; welcome to this place; welcome, the Representative of Her Majesty the Queen, to Rangiaohia for which place she has such great affection. Continue to us the protection ami friendship we have experienced from your predecessors. Ihe seeds tliey have spread amongst us are beginning to bud ; your presence wiii cherish them till U>ey a: rive at maturity and bring forth fruii. The advantages we have receive J from the European can be no more concealed than the sun's light at noon. They are manifest to the eyes of the great and humble ; the young and old appreciate them, for the heaviest burden is become light by the use of the cart; and, by the horse, the long and rough wajs are made short and easy to the traveiler. For all these benefits we a:re indebted lo the Queen and her Governors.
