Calendar for December.
During this month the farmer is busy cutting and securing hay; and Maories should now cut the grass which grows so abundantly in their cultivations, and stack it to feed their horses in the winter; —if there be any drake or darnel grass amongst the wheat, pull it up at onca before its seeds ripen, for if allowed to remain it renders the flour unwholesome. Thin out the turnips which were sown last month, 'and leave them a space apait each way. Pull up the convolvulus which springs up on tha corn and kumera hillocks. Thin the peaches ion the trees that they may grow large. Vines jare now blossoming; it is a good plan to pinch [ofF the shoots above the bunches of young grapes. Water the melons and pumpkins in dry weather, sprinkling the water over the leaves.
