SALE OF WORK AT OPHIR.
[By One Who Was There.] ] A sale of work and social in connection with the Presbyterian Church was held in the school, at Ophir, on Wednesday, 12th inst. A heavy rain, though most welcome in other respects, greatly interfered with the attendance, which was somewhat smaller than had been expected. The sale, in spite of this, was a success, the ladies and gentlemen present proving to be ready purchasers of the many beautiful and useful articles donated; and the management are well satisfied with the results which are proportionally large, The work stall was presided over by Mesdames M'Kuight, Aitken and Bluudell; refreshment stall, Mrs W. Hitches, Slisa Plow and Miss Taylor; bran tub, Miss M'Donald ; shooting gallery, Messrs G. M "Donald and S. Leask ; guessing competitions, Messrs M Knight. Peat and Bluudell. The three principal shooting matches were won by Miss 8. Mee, Messrs Aitken and Peat respectively ; the guessing competitions, '• Places in New Zealand, ".Mr R, Hanger ; pea gues-ing, Mr How John first, Miss Armstrong second . nail driving for ladies. Miss Pirw: needle threading for gentleman, Mr 11. Hanger, Vocal items were rendered by Mrs Blundell, Messrs Peat, G. M'Donafd an,l Ulundell. The thanks of the coinmitte are due to the many friends who ><> willingly assisted in making the sale a success both both bv donating articles and by coining long distances through the rain to be present and to purchase.
