PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

MATAKANUI. A very largo and enthusiastic meeting was held at Matakanui on June Btb to make arrangements for Peace Celebrations. Mr Holman occupied the chair, and after the telegram from the Hon. J. G. Ward was read it was decided to hold sports and a picnic for the children on tbe afternoon of the day chosen, and a social in the evening. For tbe evening's programme it was decided to have a bonfire and a torchlight proceesion, A committee consisting of Messrs Laidlaw, Shcppard, Wall, Murphy and Nicolson was appointed to carry out the araangements. The following gentlemen were appointed collectors : —Messrs Sutherland, Hore, Knox, J. Naylor, Wall and G. Naylor. The sum of £8 12s 6d was collected in the room by Mr Wall, and judging by the enthusiasm shown Matakanui will not be behind in its demonstration.
