THE OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY LEAGUE.

Mr S. E. M'Carthy, hon. sec. of the local branch of the Otdgo Central Railway Lsague, has handed us the following letter for publication, which explains itself: The Otago Central Railway League. -, Bond Street. Dunedin, Bth August 1895. S. E. M'Carthy, Esq. ' Secretary Nascby Branch Otago Central Railway League, Naseby. Dear Sir, v I am instructed by the Executive Council of tht Otago Central Railway League to ask if you will lie kind enough to post us as to what eff rts are being made in your district wir.h a view to furthering the more rapid progress of the Otago Central Railway towards completion. While my Executive believe that some good is being done by the efforts of the league, they regret that more active interest is not taken by its country branches and would be glad to hear from yon as to what efforts your branch is making, or has in view.

■ -The league is designated by some as '••'a semi-political body,",butß"uh an;.idea can only arise from a total misapprehension ■of the facts of tbe case. '■•■- As a matter of fact, it the list of members were analysed there is very little doubt that it would be found that the majority are supporters of the. present Government. As ;you are aware the league was formed solely with the object of watching the progress of the milway and to see that'a fair proportion ,of the money voted for public works was allocated to this line and that such allocations are spent within the period for which they are voted. For these objects aud - for these alone have ohe league been working and without party feeling in any degree. A committee has been formed to draw up rules for the constitution of the league and would be glad if your branch has any sug gestions to make.—Yours faithfully . S. C. Leary, Secretary.
