CURLING.
o CAMBRIANS CURLING CLUB'S SMOKE CONCERT.
[By C.W.A.] A smoke concert was held by the members of the above club on Friday evening, at the Welsh Harp Hotel. Mr Leader was elected chairman. The first toast was " The Queen and Royal Family," which was proposed by the chairman, and drunk with musical honours. The next toast was proposed by Mr Beattie (our worthy president), and coupled with the names of Mr C. W. Armour and Mr Ormond Hughes, who duly responded. Mr T. Morgan proposed " The Curling Province of JSew Zealand," coupled with the name of Mr Haig. Mr Beattie proposed " The father of curling in Ne A' Zealand—Mr T. Callencler," and hoped they would drink his health with musical honours, which was done with great enthusiasm. Mr C. W. Armour proposed "Kindred Clubs," and in his remarks expressed regret at there being no representatives of their, brother curlers present, but hoped that when they held their annual beef and greens invitations would be sent out by the secretary (Mr O. Hughes), and arrangements also made for holding a "curlers' court." Mr A. Haig proposed "The Visitors," which was responded to by. Mr A. Ruper, who said he felt quite at home, although a comparative stranger in, the district, and trusted to be among them next season, when he would be there as a member and not as a visitor.— (Cheers.) The next toast; " Patron and Patroness," was proposed by Mr Treewick, and was responded to by Mr J. Beattie, who regretted their absence from that happy gathering. During the evening the trophy presented by MrsM'Guckin to the club for competition amongjihe members, was handed over to Mr J. M'Kissoek by the chairman, who said he had great pleasure in presenting it to him, and trusted that he would be as successful next season as he had been during the present.—(Cheers.)
Mr M'Kissoek feelingly responded, after his health had been drunk with musical honours. '
Capital songs were contributed daring the evening by the following gent'emen : Messrs J. Beattie, C. W. Armour, A. Ruper, W. Lceder, J. M'Kissoek, and Fleming. Recitations were also given by Messrs 0. Hughes and Roper. The last toast of the evening was " The Chairman," which was drunk with great enthusiasm and musical honours.
After singing "Auld Lang Syne" the meeting broke up, all having spent a most enjoyable evening. August 5, 1895.
OTAGO CENTRAL CURLING CLUB.
A match --was played this week between rinks chosen from the married and single men of the club, for a box of tea presented by Messrs Nelson, Moate and Co:, arid resulted in a win for the married men. The trophy had been presented for competition between the Mount Ida and Otago Central Clubs, and won by the latter; the conditions being that the married and single men ot the winning club had to play off for it. MOUNT IDA CURLING CLUB. A very handsome gold pendant was presented by Mr J. Score. Total. Calder sor 1() Green scr 12 12 Malcolm 3 7 Hendricksen 5 g 13 Greeu and Hendricksen tied at 12 when time was called. In the final head Hendricksen scored 1, thus winning the trophy. This was a particularly well-played game, each player excelling all his previous performances.
