MANIOTOTO FRUIT.

The "Daily Times" thus refers to the apples "from this district which were for three or four weeks on view at the Exhibition-:—" Since our notice of the Maniototo court appeared there have been added to the exhibits a case of excellent apples of an almost extraordinary growth. They were shown at the Mount Ida Horticultural Society's Show lately, where they received the highest awards. Several of them, of the "Lord Nelsoii' class, weigh fully lib each, and the exhibitors are to be congratulated on being able to show such splendid specimens. There are several other kinds of apples in the case, all being of a kind. The growers wereMessrs M'Latehy, Millar, Mitchell, Barron, Hall,, Hjorring, Peterson, Mathius and Dr. Whitton. Mr. Hjorring's crop of apples this year was a very heavy one, seveial of the apples weighing from 14oztol6nz. This was brought about by the absence of much wind in the district, the apples being allowed to grow until they were quite fit to be picked." The Dun'edin correspondent of the " Dunstan Times " also refers to the apples as follows: —"A quantity of apples which took first prize at the Mb. Ida Horticultural Society's Show are being exhibited here, and have attracted a lot of attention by their fine quality. If a man in . the Exhibition is caught with a scratch on the back of his hand it is always safe to conclude that he has been groping under the wire cover after 1 those apples. Eve-ia not the only person | tempted by apples."
