Jt has transpired that the AngloFrench note, explaining the policy of the two Governments with regard to Esrypt, proposes that the European entente cordiale should be directed towards the maintainence of the stafus quo in the Khedive's dominions. In the House of Commons to-day a motion was introduced by Mr Justin iM'Carthy, member for Longford, censuring the Government for its administration of affairs in Ireland, and was rejected. V Sydney, Feb. 15. Elias Laycock sails for England by. the Lisjuria on Friday n*-xt.... It is understood that he goes for the purpose cf assisting Triekett.

(FromtUe Press Association.; Twelve candidates were nominated to-day for tbe Dunedin Central Licensing Committee, including all pro - 'posed for Dunedin South yesterday, with the addition of Messrs Robin Donaldson, aud Leslie. For Lindon, one of the Roslyn Districts, only three were nominated, so that that Governor will have to appoint 2. Wellington and Christchurch intend engaging a professional cricketer as coach. A company is to be formed to reclaim Pelichet Bay, in order to form a Park, which will include -a cricket ground, a running track, and, if possible, a racecourse. It is understood that his Excellency, family, and suite, will leave for Christchurch on Eriday next. It is expected he will be absent about three months, returning in time to open Parliament in May. \
CABLEGRAMS. London, February 8. In the House of Commons to-day Mr .Gladstone was questioned as to what action, if any, the Government proposed to take in regard to the persecution of Jews in Russia. In reply the Premier deplored the outrages, and stated that the question was an internal, not an international one. The Government would, howS ever, intercede with the Lussian au-< thorities, when a fitting occasion: arose. -;is There is no foundation for the report, which has been current, to the : effect that Earl Granviile has verbally protested to the Russian Ambassador .ngainst the recent treaty settling the Russian-Persian frontier.
