(United Press Association Telegrams.) Dunedin, Thufsday. The first nomination of Licensing ConimLisioners took place to-day for Dunedin South. Nine candidate's were proposed namely, Messrs Eish, <»ore, Street, Koss, Culling, Rennie, Fiiiuc, Allan, and E.irr. The first three are said to be the Licensed Vic-, tuailers'" candidates. T;.ie remainderexcept Mr Culling, are put forward by the temperance party: The weather during the past two days has been quite wintry and cold. Miles has been appointed rabbit inspector for Maniototo district. The steward of the ship "Waitara, at "Wellington, has been fined £IOO for smuggling four boxes of cigars. At a meeting of the Provisional Directory of the "West Coast Railway, in Christchurcb, it was decided to write to Sir J. Vogel, asking to what extent he could influence subscriptions of British capital, in the event of the Colony subscribing 200,000 shares; and* further, to General Feilding, Australia, pointing out that it is cpmpetent for a Syndicate to undertake the construction, and that, if he considers the matter important enough to pay JS T ew Zealand a visit, one of the promoters would accompany him over the country. At the Land Board, Mr John Bruhns aDplied for leave to take up Sec. 9, Bit 111, Rock and Pillar, on deferred payments. It was resolved "That the Board approves of Mr John Bruhns being allowed to complete bis holding up to 320 acres, and that the Chief Commissioner be re-> quested to carry this out, if possible." The following application to purchase under deferred payment lease was approved : —Wm. Bowling, Sec. 16, Blk VII., Rock and Pillar.
