NOTES FROM ST. BATHANS.

The annual riieeting of the St. Bathans Racing Club, held on Saturday : Dee 29th, passed off without a hitch, and the Club may be ■'complimented ori having, in the short time at their : disposal, arranged and carried out their programme so successfully. i Thp following is a resume of the various ev<jnts -.'-- '

Maldbs- Plate' of 10 sovs. for all lifn-sM that have never won £lO or over. One mile; Weight for atn. Post entry, 15s. G; A. Snlith's c k Sylvio, 5 yrs (owner) .. 1 R. Jenkins' b g Spark, 4 yre (P'r.»si-ott) .. 2 SuDchall's b g Poorbbv, 6 yrs (owner) .. 3 The lot were sent to p capital start, and for about .a third of the distance they were all in it, but Sylvio gradually drew away and won with great ease. The Cambrian Handicap was declared off, a sufficient number of nominations not having been received for it. The Hack Selling Race of 10 sovs, one mile heats, was immediately proceeded with, resulting as follows • Pyle's Lauder (Malone) 1 Wiikutl-'lfl's Charlie .. ..5 Jenkins" Spark 3 This race was supposed to lie between Lauder and Spark, and but for the latter bolting some distance from home might have resulted in something close at the finish ; as it was, Lander, after a sharp struggle, disposed of Charlie, and was allowed to walk over for the second heat. Mr Chappie, on behalf of the Club, -submitted him for sale, realising £2O 10e.-, adding 10s. to the funds of the Club. St. Bathans Handica!* of 15 sovs. Distance, 1J mile 1 .- Keenan's b g Manx Hoy, aged, 9st 121bs (I)ongee) i Jones' b m Little Charlotte, aged, Bst 71bs (Scherp) 2 Smith's c g Sylvio, 5 yrs, Bst 7!bs (&alone) 3 Jenkins' b g Spark .. o There was a good deal of speculation over this event, after the handicap was declared, Manx Boy holding the premier position in the betting. After a little manceuveriiig at the post, Mr. Peacock got them away on very even terms, and for the first half mile the lot were well together. Manx Boy and Charlotte now singled out, and a slashing race ensued, resulting in a win tor the gelding by about two lengths, Sylvio third, and Spark out of it. Sylvio carried sixteen and Spark forty pounds over weight. Hack Race of s sovs. One mile. Catch weights. Wakefield's Charlie (Scherp) .. .. l Snnchall's Poorboy (owner) .. .. 2 Two others started, but the race was never in doubt, Charlie having it almost from the start. Consolation Handicap of io sovs. Distance, 1 mile. Jones' Little Charlotte, 9st 121bs (Malone) 1 Snnchall's Poorboy. Bst Tibs.. ' .. ..2 Jenkins' Spark, Bst 3 In this event Little Charlotte, though carrying ten pounds over weight, under the able guidance of Malone hail little difficulty in pulling off the stakes, adding another win to the credit of her populai owner, Mr. Jones. Hospital Race of £5 10s., collected on the course, Snnchall's Poorboy 1 Healy'slda .." 3 Won easily by Poorboy. Trotting Match of 5 sovs—in lieu of the Cambrian Handicap. T. Rowe's Welsh Girl 1 Kieth's Tommy.. .. .. ... ..2 Rouland's Lizzie .• ..3 This race was much more exciting than the generality of trotting contests, and would probably have resulted in a victory for Lizzie but for the severe handicap allotted hex.

In consequence of the length of the foregoing programme, the athletic sports were unavoidably held over till Monday, when there was a good muster on the course, and a large number of amateur athletes contested for the various prizes offered by the Club. [Our correspondent'* valued coin ruunicaf ion > by some unexplained cause, was not delivered at Naseby until after tbu publication of our last week's issue. It appeirs to have taken atrip to Kyeburn, and returned on Saturday morning.—Ed. M.I.C.]
