THE DUNSTAN RACES.
The ' Dunstan Times' gives the following anent the second and third days sports at the Dunstan. We gave the results last week :—The Ball was opened with the Grand Stand Handicap, for which seven went to the post. This event was expected to be well contested, and the result proved that the public were not wrong in their predictions. Opinion, however, was somewhat divided as to the favorite, the ring going in strong for Malice, the public for Hatred and Atlas. The start being affected, Miss Ennis took first position, Brunette last, this not being thecock "Holt" intended to fight, put the mare to it, and like a streak,' passed through the team, quickly taking first place, and making the running remarkably hot coffee for Malice who was to win (if she could). On entering the straight, Atlas and Hatred closed on the leading pair. Brunette having done her work, gradually fell back. .An interesting race now took place between Malice, Atla3 and Hatred. Malice, on neck and neck, now took the lead, and galloped in splendid style to within a few yards of home, Avhen the mare, by a grand effort;, got
the advantage, and won by a short length. For the Scurry Stakes only two started, Madam and Grblden Cloud. This was a game race, and won by Madam, who was afterwards sold by auction for £33., Mr. "W. Fraser, of Earnscleugh, being the purchaser. The Town Plate was a walk over for Tambourini. Burgundy, belonging to the same stable, only having been entered. For the. Hack Eace which followed, there was a field of eight, of whom G-olden Cloud was the best horse. The Consolation brought the day's' meet to a close, and was won by Burgundy. Saturday again brought a good sprinkling on the course, who were served with two Hack races, the Hospital race, and a private match, besides some other sports, including wrestling, and. boxing with the gloves, For the sport and enjoyment the third day was by far'the besb, and brought to a satisfactory close the seventh annual race meeting under the management of the Dunstan Jockey Club.
