THE WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held last week. There were present —Messrs Clarke (in the chair), Strode, Tolmie, and Butterworth. Mr. Neill M'Killop applied to have section 24, block I, at Akatore, offered for sale at 10s per acre. The matter was referred to the ranger of the district for his report. The consideration of bye-laws for the management of pasturage within hundreds, in terms of Clauses 116 and 117 of the Waste Lands Act, 1872 was postponed. Captain Eraser applied for permission to purchase 80 acres on run 335 B, to enable him to include improvements already made thereon. Application granted. A notice from Messrs Smith and Anderson, solicitors for Messrs Gellibrand and Smith, expressing their intention to appeal to the Supreme Court against the decision of the Board given on their application on the 10th inst., was received and read.

Eraser, on behalf of the Committee of the Church of England at Cromwell, applied for the right to purchase a triangular reserve in Donegal street, Cromwell. On behalf of Mr. James Marshall, Mr. G. E. Eeid applied for right to purchase sections 11 12, block 15, Maungatua district, foi the purpose of establishing bop-grounds. The matter was preferred to the ranger of the district for report. Mr. P. B. Boult's application for a lease of the plantation reserve at Queenstown ' was considered. Telegrams from the Mayor of Queenstown, objecting to the application were read. The Board decided not to grant it. A letter from Captain M'Kenzie was read. It agreed to the opening up for sale of 10,000 acres on his run, No. 168, between the Waikoikoi and Pomahaka. It was resolved that the unsurveyed portion be cut up into 80 and 100 acre blocks, and that the surveyed portion be opened for application within one month from the present time. An application by Mr. P. B. Breet, for permission to purchase part of the village reserve on block 3, Wakatip district was refused. The application of Mr. W. J. Harrison, for a pastoral lease of 50,000 acres of country on the Nokomai, was granted on the usual conditions—that the grazing capacity be assessed, and the depasturing, right put up to auction. Mr. Alex. M'Nab applied for permission to. purchase 12,000 acres of his run, No. 11l Chatton district. The ! application was refused. The Board then adjourned.—' Star.' I
