MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Tuesday, presided over by Cr. AY. E. Barber (Chairman). The Public Works Department wrote inviting applications for subsidies on proposed road or bridge constructional works and it was decided to request a subsidy on a bridge on Taylor’s line. The Department also invited recommendations for the declaration of main highways and it was decided to recommend the Awahuri-Ko-pane; Fredkiington’s Line from Ohakea corner to the corner of Campion’s Line. The Department asked for appointments to the district highways council and the Chairman was unanimously re-appointed. Mr A. D. MacPherson, of 'Manawatu Heads, wrote, on behalf of the Beach linprovement Society, requesting particulars as to the rates received and disbursements made on the Foxton Beach road. The Chairman said that the same question had been raised and answered on innumerable occasions.
; It was decided to supply the information on this occasion but it was decided that this would be the last occasion on which it would do so.
. A letter was received from the Plimmerton-Paetoakariki main highways association requesting support to the proposal to have the main highway canned along the coast to avoid a climb over Paekakariki hill. —Received. ALTERATIONS TO RATE ROLL
The following alterations were made in the county rate roll: J. H. Lobb to H. F. E. Beazer, pt. secs. 71, 73, T.ship. of Sandon; Est. B. Ellerm to T. Waugh, lots 34 and 35, pt. sec. 86, town of Sandon. F. S. Guy and W. Haycock to C. M. H. Thevenard, pt. sec. 131, township of Sandon. R. B. Simpson to J. Allerby, lots 266, 267, and 536, town of Foxton. A. D. Bauckham to C. Taylor, lot 310, pt. sec. 268, blk. 1, Moutere S'.D. ‘TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer reported that the County Fund account was at debit £3,539 16/3; the Main Highways Loan account in credit £9,564 11/6. TRAMWAY REPORT. The tramlway manager reported that the chief items of traffic for the month were eggs 43 crates; metal, 1,235 c.yds.; manure, 50 tons; minerals, 93f tons; general merchandise 111 tons; timlber 2,700 c. feet; wool, 21 bales, sheep 10 trucks; pigs 1 truck; firewood 3 truck; and sleepers 4 trucks. The accounts show a credit balance of £55 7/6 for the month’s working. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer reported as follows: No. 1 main highway: The 20 chains of boundary road between the Foxton borough and the Manawatu County at the racecourse on the Hima-tanri-Foxton section has now been sealed, which completes this contract. Drains and watertables are being cleaned on the HimatangiSanson highway. Metal patching has been undertaken where necessary. The bituminous surface of the Sanson-Bulls road has been patched. The construction of the Makowhai stream bridge is progressing slowly but satisfactorily. Foxton-Shannon No. 59: Surface patching is now being undertaken and shoulders are being built up and strengthened at several places around Marotiri. Culverts and drains have been cleaned. The power graders have been engaged in the surface grading of all metalled main highAvay. Drains and Avatertables have been cleaned. on No. 6 line, Kari Kari, Poplar and BpAve’s roads. Spring’s road has been cut out with the grader. Surface patching is now being undertaken on Bowe’s and Spring’s roads.
