SPINNING AS OF YORE.
WHEELS OVER 100 YEARS OLD
An interesting afternoon Avas spent in the Presbyterian Hall, Whangarei, last Aveek, Avhen Mesdames N. McKenzie, J. iMackay and D. X. McLeod gave a demonstration of spinning on wheels, two of which are over 100 years old. In the centre of the hall these three ladies were carding and spinning, seated on stools, Avith aprons on their knees, as in the days of their mothers. Some interesting reminiscences Avere revived of grandmothers and great-grandmothers, and their cheerful songs as they carried out their work. Miss Scott displayed a beautiful piece of blended natural cojours, in a pair of (knitted Shetland Avoollen mitts, Avhich were over 100 years old. Mi’s Norman McKenzie, Mi’s Marsden Woods and Mi’s J. Isherwood contributed items. The members of the Ladies’ Guild provided afternoon tea.
