The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Horo•whenua Rugby Union was held in Levin on Tuesday night, the President (Rev. Father Riordan) occupying the chair. On the motion of Mr Bishop, seconded by Mr Bateman, the club was fined 5/- for .defaulting the match without giving sufficient notice, and suspended until the arrears are paid. The referee (Mr S. Mulcahy) advised that in the match Fire Bri-' gade v. Hui Mai, two players of the former team were attired in wrong coloured jerseys.
Mr Devonshire explained that the club had sufficient jerseys but had experienced difficulty in raising a team, and the two players were unable to obtain jerseys. The usual fine of 2/6 per player was imposed. The Foxton Club sought permission to use Easton Park on June 3rd in a match with Rangitikei and also to make a charge for admission.
It was pointed out that Fire Brigade had already been given the use of that ground on June 3rd.
In the third grade football Shannon will play Fire Brigade at Shannon on, Saturday at 1.30 p.m. Consideration was given to the holding of matches on the days of June Ist, Bth and 29th when different racing clubs in the Union’s district are holding race meetings. Mr Rinuner moved and Mr Bishop seconded that matches be played as usual. This was lost by seven votes to six, so that play will be suspended on the three Saturdays mentioned. It was decided to forward the names of Messrs E. Mulcahy, P. MeLeavey and T. Parata as suitable referees in inter-provincial matches..
The Fire Brigade Club wrote protesting against the result of - the Foxton v. Fire Brigade junior match on the ground that the former club played W. McGregor of senior status.
The Foxton Club forwarded a letter from the Porangahau Club giving McGregor a clearance and stating that he was financial.
It was decided to hold the matter over pending further information as a difficulty was found in declaring to what union the player’s former club was affiliated and the status to which the player had been graded. Referees’ expenses amounting to £1 5/- were passed for payment. v
