Tim cruisers berthed at Pipitea. wharf and squads of sailors were soon at wofilc removing all traces of the six days at sea, while sentry boxes were set up and painted, and gangways run out and also painted, all apparently at top speed. The Japanese Consul, Mr N. S. Falla, went aboard the Asama and afterwards Rear-Admiral Nakamura, with the Consul and two captains and two others,-called on the Governor-General (Lord Galway) and later upon the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. A. E. Ransom), following which they laid a wreath on the Citizen’s 'War Memorial. Some hundred officers, petty officers and cadets were entertained at a picture, theatre, where the film, “Romantic New Zealand," was screened by courtesy of the Internal Offices Department. The squadron, which is making a training cruise of five months in the Pacific, is commanded by RearAdmiral Kamasaburo Nakamura, a distinguished officer of the Japanese Navy. The Asama and Yakumo, which have been in service since the beginning of this century, are famous veterans of the RussoJapanese War and the Great War. The cruise is being carried out mainly for the seagoing training of cadets and midshipmen, of whom there are 174 in the ships.
