NEW RATES OF PAY
■SINGLE MEN’S CAMPS AND SMALL FARMS SCHEME Particulars of the new rates of pay for those employed in single men’s camps and under the small farms scheme were given by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. Bitehener, in the House of Representativts last night. The rates, which became operative at the beginning of this month, provide for the payment of 15/- a week and found for those in single men’s camps, as compared with the previous rate of 10/- a. week. The weekly rates payable to those engaged under the small farms scheme are: Single men, without food 25/-, with food 15/-; married man with wife only, 37/-; with wife and one child, 40/-; with wife and two children, 42/-, with wife and three or more children, 48/-. There has been a 5 per cent, increase in the prices to be paid in eo-pfaerative contracts at the Hobsonville aerodrome, the new basis being 10/6 a day, which will be the rate for day work also. On all other relief works controlled by the Public Works Department. the men are to receive a 5 per cent, increase in pay on contract prices, hut no back pay. This relates particularly to land improvement work, which is being earned out under financial arrangements made by the Unemployment Board with settlers in which the department is acting ns agent for the hoard. Men employed at September 20 on standard works and relief workers employed at standard rates on irrigation, roads and other fulltime work are to receive a 5 per cent, increase) in pay as from April 1 last. Men who left the employ of the department between April 1 and September 20 for any reason will not be entitled to back pay.
