GAS WORKS

At last night’s Borough Council meeting the treasurer reported that during the month of September 308,700 cubic feet of gas were manufactured. On the first of the month there was 12,804 cubic feet in the holder, making a total of 321,504 cubic feet. During the month 262,400 feet was. sold to consumers, 20,500 feet was used at the works and there was 14.530 feet in the holder on September 30th, malking a total of 297,736 feet accounted for and leaving 23,768 cubic feet, representing 7.4 per cent., unaccounted for. During the month 34 tons of coal was used, producing 9,076 cubic feet of gas per ton. There was three tons of coal and one ton of coke on hand at the end of the month.

The manager reported that the large. amooint of coal used during the month was accounted for by using up all the old eoal on hand. Seven defective meters were replaced.

The Clerk stated that as a result of the coal boat working the port being delayed by bad weather, and stocks being reduced to a minimum ten tons of coal had to be borrowed from Palmerston North and foui tons locally. This had all been repaid, however. The reports were adopted. •
