WHITEBAIT IN SOUTH
At this time of the year whitebait is usually reaching the Christchurch market in large quantities, but such' has not been the case this season, which is described by one fish merchant as one of the worst experienced for a long time. So far little whitebait has come from the West Coast, floods resulting in very poor catches, and the quantity taken from Canterbury rivers has also been very small.
