FIRE AT PAHIATUA

RESIDENCE DESTROYED.

Pahiatua, October 5. Fii’e demolished the ten-i’oomed residence of Mr G. Harold Smith at noon to-day. The owner was absent at Rotorua. The house beingoutside the borough boundary, main water was unobtainable. The brigade pumped the contents of a tank, confining the flames to the roof, till practically all the contents Avere salvaged by willing onlookers. Insurances total £2OOO.
