The death occurred at Dunedin on Saturday, at the age of 98 years, of Edward Smith, a naval veteran of the Crimean and Persian war.-, and the Indian mutiny. The late -Mr Smith was attracted to New Zealand by the gold rushes of the early ’sixties, and for about 30 years followed mining pursuits in various parts of the South Island.
