BOROUGH, COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held ii the Council Chambers last evening Reports were read and dealt with as follows: — ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (-Mr A. G. Huntley) reported that during tin month the road staff had been engaged in patching cracks in bitumen surface in Union and Russell Sts., top-dressing footpaths in Clyde St. and southern end of Mafn St., mixing asphalt in yard; mowing reserve plots and general maintenance. The staff is at present engaged in top-dressing a section of f nion St. footpath, after which it is proposed to recoat both sides of Wharf St. —Adopted. WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT.

The foreman (Mr. W. D. Neville) reported that during' the month the staff had been employed in levelling the section corner of Duncan Street and Lady’s Mile, about one quarter of the job being completed. All maintenance work had been attended to in connection with the water | and drainage. During' the month 2,175,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 30 amps. The pumping plant is working .satisfactorily. —Adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: — From the. Mauawatu County Council acknowledging receipt of letter regarding sealing of roads and stating that the matter would receive consideration when funds were available.—Received. From the Public Works Department in reply to a letter asking that an engineer from the Department report upon the failure in the water supply, intimating that it could not see its way to agree to the proposal as the Department did not, except under extraordinary circumstances, give engineering advice to municipal bodies and regretted inability to depart from this policy. It suggested, however, that there were a good number of very capable engineers in private practice who would be willing to make the report required.—Received. GENERAL. Mr. W. Coley was granted annual leave. The Clerk reported that the lease of the Target Reserve had been sold for £l2O per year for seven years. It was decided that whore consumers themselves request the installation of slot gas meters, a minimum of 300 feet per month he imposed.
