POSED AS BARONET.
SON OF DUNEDIN STOREMAN.
Bernard Walter Williams, aged 21, Dunedin, was charged' last weekbefore Mr. 11. P. Lawry, S.M., with making a false statement under the Marriage Act on May 27 at Waimate. He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. The Police said Williams fillecT in the marriage forms, describing himself as Sir Earl Bernard Earland, baronet. Nottingham. Subsequently under 4hat title he married a girl at Sydenham. The girl knew him under his correct name. All the particulars that he supplied to the registrar were false, hut his actions Avere more foolish than anything else. The girl Avas not misled into marrying him. Williams avus the son of a storeman at Dunedin and had not been out of New Zealand in his life. For some time he Avorked in the post office as a messenger, then went farming, and lately lie had been employed by Seventh Day Ad- \ r entists, Avorking on a commission basis, selling Bibles and other Christian literature.- He could, not explain Avhy he posed as a baronet. He had gained nothing by it. He had been keeping company with the Sydenham girl for some years and he Avas riOAV living Avith her parents.
