DRY SPELL BROKEN
114 POINTS OP RAIN OVER NIGHT. After weeks of frosts and an entire -absence of rain for a considerable period, the dry spell was broken daring the week-end by a light fall of rain on Sunday evening. A few seatteral showers were also experienced yesterday morning but the afternoon was very warm. Towards night, however, rain c-louds gathered in the western sky and during the night a particularly heavy downpour was experienced and steady rain has fallen since, giving lawns, gardens and pasture lands a good soaking. At 9 a.m. to-day 114 points of rain had been recorded at the local Post Office.
Rain was badly wanted in and around Foxton, farmers being short of feed, which had |been seriously affected by the severe frosts. In a number of cases within the borough householders depending on rain water were experiencing a shortage of water, a most unusual thing for this time of the year.
The Manawntu River has been lower this winter than for many years past. It. is fortunate, however, that the rain was not experienced while the ranges were heavily coated with snow or a big flood might have resulted.
