RAILWAY TREE PLANTING TO COMMENCE ON MONDAY.
WORK FOR FIFTY LOCAL MEN,
At last night’s meeting of the Foxton Unemployment Committee the secretary (Mr. W. Trueman) read cori-espondence from the Unemployment Board and Railway Department, relative to the tree planting scheme to be put) into operation on the railway reserves bounding the Foxton-Himatangi main highway.
It was stated that the Department desired to commence operations on Monday next and suitable transport arrangements had been made.
Twenty men were l-equired for six days a week and there would be little broken time as the Department had arranged shelters for the men engaged on the work. Commenting on the proposal, the 'Chairman (Mr. M. E. Perreau) said that it would greatly assist in relieving the local position. Fifty men would be required to fulfil the Department’s requirements. It was decided to make the necessary arrangements for allocating the men in oi-der that a start could (bo made on Monday. • A consignment of trees for the job came to hand on the m.v. Foxton last week.
