UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

COMMITTEE MEETING,

A committee meeting of the Foxton United Sports Association was held in the Racing Club office on Thursday night, presided over by the President (Mr Jewell). There was a good attendance and the handicappers, Messrs Palmer and Page, of Palmerston N. were also present. Correspondence of minor importance was dealt with, the main object of the meeting being to receive NOMINATIONS. In this respect the Club was particularly fortunate. Nominations came in freely the number of riders nominating for the various events being as follows: — Wthirokino Handicap, 20; Foxton Racing Club Handicap, 41; Moutoa Handicap, 21; Herrington Classic, 21; Ilimatangi Handicap, 41; Visitors’ Handicap, post entry; Marotiri Handicap, 41; Consolation Handicap, post entry. The President said that the value of the nominations was about £Bl. All the leading riders, including Percy Coleman, had nominated. GENERAL. AH S. Austin reported that the caretaker of the Foxton racecourse had been putting in a considerable time draining the course and everything augured well for the course being in. good (condition fo'y the races. It was desirable that the caretaker be given some assistance with the draining, however. It was decided that the chairman be empowered to employ men for draining the course, the work not to exceed £lO.

Two handsome cups, the AustinJohnston and Coughtrey cups were presented to the meeting and hearty votes of thanks were accorded the donors.

Mh S, Austin is going to Wellington on Monday to bring back the Licensed Victuallers’ Cup, valued at £35 guineas. If was decided to have the cups engraved and placed on exhibition in the town.

Messrs Smith, Christie, and Newton were appointed a committee to attend to the side shows on the day of the races.
