MASONIC
An Installation, unique in the annals of Freemasonary, took place at the local Masonic Lodge yesterday afternoon when Bro. R. Rangiheuea was installed as W.M., the first representative of the Maori race to occupy such a position. Lodges in all parts of the district were represented and the attendance was a record. The ceremony was con-ducted-by R. Wor. Bro. J. A. Nash, assisted by R. Wor. Bro. Perritt, and Hornblow, and V.W. Bro. Graham and officers of Grand Lodge. W. Bro. -Ino. Ross otlieiated as Director of Ceremonies. The following officers were invested.—-rW.M., Bro. R. Rangiheuea; S.W., Bro. G. Alexander; J.W., Bro. D. Campbell; Chaplain, W. Bro. S. E. Cowley; Sec ret ary, W. Bro. J. Ross; Treasurer, W. Bro. E. Healey; D.C., W. Bro. \V. E. Bullard; S.D. Bro. T. J. Rowley; J.D., Bro. A. W. Steveftison; I.G. Bro. E. Sutton; Tyler, W. Bro. F. de Bidder; S.S., Bro. D. M. Gilbert ; .1.8. Bro. li. Osborne.
At the Royal Theatre, in the evening, the lodge entertained the visiting brethren ami- their lady friends at a most enjoyable social and dance which was largely attended. R-. Wor. Bro. J. A. Nash officiated as M.C. and the music was supplied by Larkins’ orchestra, while the catering was in the efficient hands of W. Bro. Perreau. Those present were welcomed in a neat speech by Wor. Bro. Rangiheuea aiyl short addresses were! given by R. Wor. Bros. Nash, Graham, Perritt and Hornblow. During the evening vocal items were rendered by Mhss Phillips and Bros. Perritt and some humorous stories related by Wor. Bro. Wright, Dance extras were played hv Misses Healey, Stevenson and Nellie Woods.
