SCHLESWIG PLEBISCITE.
75 PER CENT. FAVOURS DENMARK. Copenhagen, Feb. 11. Progress reports of the plebiscite in Schleswig show that seventy-tive per cent, favour Denmark, which greatly exceeds expectations. Quite naturally the Danes residing in this Dominion, some who even took part in the war with Germany in 1804, when Schleswig was so ruthlfesly torn from 'Denmark, are delighted over (his great victory, which has been made possible by the help of: God and the Allied Nations. A strong committee of prominent Danes was some, time ago formed for the purpose of arranging matters to celebrate this great event, which it has been decided to do by .having, at an early dare, a re-union at Palmerston .North of Danish men and women from all parts of; the Dominion. Many have already signified their intention of being present, and it i.-j hoped that a very $ joyful, pleasant, and successful limp will be spent. The chairman (Mr ('has. Dahl) has, on behalf of the committee, despatched the following cable to His Majesty the King of Denmark: — “Men and women of Danish l»irt.li, residents of New Zealand, unite in greetingsdo your Majesty on Jhe occasion M: Schleswig’s restoration.” A «‘ahle has also been despatched to the newly appointed 'Minister tor Schleswig, Mr .Hansen Norrcmollc, who took such a prominent part in the restoration, as follows:• —■“Fraternal greetings from Danes-in NtPv ’Zealand on Schleswig’s restoration.” , The committee lias furl her arranged, at a later date, to present the King of Denmark with an illuminated address, (he work of which has been entrusted (o local linns, and which, from suggested designs and workmanship, promises to bo something unique and very excellent. —Standard.
