APPOINTING PUPII, TEACHERS.

At Thursday-night's School Committee meeting the action of the Education Board in reference to the appointment and transfer of pupil teachers was discussed. Several appointments have recently been made to the school of pupil teachers, who' have not had any previous experience in the work. That in itself is alright, for beginners have to make a start in some school, and probably the Board are of opinion that the Foxton school is one of the best training grounds for • such purposes in the southern district. So soon, however, as the p.t. becomes useful —after the lapse of a few months —a removal takes place, and a fresh and inexperienced p.t. is appointed. It will be seen how this method disorganises the work of the teaching staff, and the class work roust suffer to an extent as a consequence. If the Hoard could devise some scheme whereby certain schools were given, say, two beginners per year, we believe the difficulty could be overcome, but to impose too much of the training of p.t.’s on one school is coming it a bit strong. We may add that when the Committee entered a protest some time since, it was politely snubbed by the Board. We suggest that the local Committee formulate a resolution on the subject, to be submitted to every Committee of a similar size to Foxton, for their approval, urging the Board to improve on the present system of appointing p.l’s.
