THE MAYORALTY.
Cr Sticks has definitely decided to offer his services as Mayor at the forthcoming election, and it appears that he will be the only Richmond in the field. Mr Speirs, who was previously spoken of as a likely candidate, has definitely decided not to come out. The former gentleman has served the town well and faithfully as a borough Councillor, and has always been an advocate of progress. He is a level-headed business man, and if he can conduct the affairs of the borough as thoroughly as he does his own business, then the burgesses will have nothing to complain about if he is returned. He is also a man of high moral character —a virtue which should be considered as most essential in a person holding the chief magistracy of the town, and the present Mayor will find a worthy successor in Cr Styles in this respect. Cr Stiles recognises the urgent need of a water supply for the borough, and if elected, will pledge himself to give this question careful consideration and support. His long connection with borough administration is proof of his knowledge in this connection, and he should fill the position with credit to himself and advantage to the town.
