The discovery of a number of incipient fires and a quantity of dynamite on steamers bound to America leads? to the belief in shipping circles that a conspiracy is on foot to destroy a whole fleet of vessels. In one instance the dynamite -was warm from the heat occasioned by one of these outbreaks of fire. Mr Cecil Ehodes telegraphs that the Matabele are entirely subjugated, aod-Jving Lobengula has fled without any intention of returning. Mr Gladstone says he does not intend during the present session to legislate in the direction of reducing the term of Parliaments. The steelworkers at Pootymister have gone out on strike. They are resisting the introduction of Scotoh and English free labourers. The strikers stoned the police, but the latter charged the mob and dispersed the rioters. The military have been summoned to asriiflTin -preserving order! Private felegr&ms - received state that Captain Wilson's detachment
was cut to pieces by the Matabeles as was also that under Captain Burrows, sent by Major Forbes to render aid. The total number of men in the two detachments was 40. It is announced that the Admiralty has decided to strengthen the British Squadron, and make it Stronger than it has been during any previous period of peace. At a conference of Anarchists, held in London, it was resolved that desperate measures are necessary in order to convince the capitalists that the Wovlriug Classes must be treated with more consideration.
