Manawatu Valuations.

The following are the new valuations for the various ridings in the Manawatu County. We give in a parallel column the amount at which the various ridings were previously valued : — Biding New valuation Old valuation Sandon ... £119,925 £77,098 Mt. Under the previous valuation, if a three-farthings in the £ rate were struck, the sum of £1,681 Is 6d. would be realised, whereas under the present a rate of one half-penny in the £ will bring in £1,687 11s Id, or £26 9s 7d more than the threefarthing rate under the former valuation. As will be noticed, the largest increase is in valuation in the riding of Campbell, which has been more than doubled. Several of the settlers in < ampbelltown, near the Square, purchased what were called town sections adjoining their own properties, and these, although neither so much improved, nor of so much value at the present time as the farms, have been valued exceptionally high. In one case a hundred acre farm, laid down in grass, fenced, and fully improved, is valued at £11 per acre, while some " town " sections at the rear, with no improvement except the felling of the bush, has the unimproved value assessed at £15 per acre Another lot, nearer the Square, but of no more value at the present time, and of less value to the owner than his farm, which they adjoin, are valued at £20 per acre. — Advocate.
