Constable Whelan, whc was stationed behind tho door, and wa> also Hufft-ring sevtrely from the pepP pr - ' came from his position and stinck th> robber on the head. Sergeant White then covered him wilh his revolver, and the burglar caved in after a severe struggle. The prisoner's name is William Henry ; Borfield. Upon bis clotheß being 1 searched, ' the following articles ' were fonnd : — A ..knitted bludgeon, a gag, piece of rope, ] piece of soap, a quantity of pepper, and a ' towel.
