(beuter s telegrams). London, January 81. The steamer Protos has been chartered for two more voyages be* tween Australia and London, to bring cargoes of fresh meat, and other articles of food. The Gazette of to-day announces the appointment of Mr Des Vcoux, Governor of Fiji, to the Assistant Eigh Commigsionership of the Western Pacific. Consols are unchanged at 99|. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. Adelaide "wheat, ex warehouse, 60s. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 345. ; New Zealand wheat, ex ship, 48s. - In the House of Commons to-day, Sir Charles Dilke, the Under-Sfcre-tary of State for Foreign Affairs, was questioned as to the present state of the negotiations for the settlement ot the Greek frontier difficulty. In reply, he stated that the question of holding a conference was no longer under consideration, hut that it had been agreed that the Ambassadors of the Powers at the Turkish and Greek Courts, should negotiate in the matter, and there was every hope that united action would bring about a peaceful solution of the frontier question. In the House of Commons, Mr. Childers, the Secretary for War, in reply to a question, said that the total reinforcements expected to arrive at Durban, Natal, by February 10, for service in the Transvaal, was 4500. He added that the Boers had not committed any outrages, and would be treated according to the rules of civilized warfare. London, February 1. The death of Mrs. Anna Maria Hall , the Irish authoress, is announced today. The debate in the House of Commons on the Irish Coercion Bill was resumed last evening. Mr. Gladstone refused to agree to a compromise which was demanded by opponents of the measure, and insisted that a division should he taken. The Iri^h members have, however, resumed their obstruction, and the debate continues. A ladies' section of the Irish Land League has been initiated in Dublin. News comes to hand to-day that the Fenians have caused placards to be posted throughout Ireland, setting forth their rights in inflammatory terms. The police have, however, acted promptly, and have destroy- d all the placards which have been posted, and a quantity intended for further distribution. Brisbane, February 2. An enthusiastic meeting was held last evening, under the presidency of the Hon.— O'Doherty, M L C, a+ which resolutions were adopted that branches of the Irish Land League should be formed. A vote of thanks to Mr Parnell was also passed. Albany, February 2. The P.. & 0. Company's steamship Peshawur, with the inward .Suez mail, has arrived -in King George's Sound, en route for Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. [SPECIAL TO SYDNEY HERALD.] London, January 25. In the House of Commons to-day, a stormy debate took place on the Irish Peace Bill. A violent scene ensued. Mr. O'Donnell, a Home Ruler, belonging to the Parnell sec tion, in the course of a violent speech, stigmatised Mr. Gladstone as a traitor to his country. The remark gave rise to a scene of >reat disorder and confusion. The Speaker, finding it impossible to restore order, adjourned the Houae. There are rumors afloat that Mr. Gladstone's health is exceedingly precarious, but no definite announcement to this effect has been made. It is reported that after the rec:nt violent scene in the House of Commons Mr. Gladstone was much distressed, and sent for his physician. It is known that his medical adviser is in attendance upon the Premier.
