THE SHOOTING SEASON .
TO THE FIMTOU OF TII.-: MAWAVATC HERALD. Sir, — I am sorry to see in your late issue ! the shootiug seasf.n for imported game will commence on Ist of April, inasmuch as I consider it will b^ c*uelty to the poor birds themselves, besides spoiling real good sport. We sen under ou. feet, every day, birds -caice able to fly, and without being iv nny way alile lo take c *re of themselves. The consequence will be thit in many inslanc '3 fchey will be shot, not upon the wing, but in clusters whilst dragging tlieir little bodies after tlieir mo; hers. Another reason, should the lieu bird (whi-ih is invariably the case) fist* first, and say", accidentally be shot, then llv* young birds aro left, a pi*«y to hawks, cats, and every species of destructive vermin. | I would suggest, therefore (and I am burue our. iv my opinion by every true sportsman) that nheasants at leust, shall not be shut uutil tho first day of May. I ara kc., Sportsman*. | Foxton, March 13. 1880.
