THE LADIES' PETITION.
*- ♦__ TO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATU IIEKALD. Sir — Is Foxtou going to lead the Way in the aping of American customs ? If any one bad said that three ladies would be found even in this town bold enough to hawk round a petition in favor of a man whom they know bus no legal qualification to practice as a medical man, and who has ingratiated himself into their favor by a long series of adulation, flattery, and toadyism— l say, Sir, if anyone had stated this as a fact, he would have been regarded us a lunatic. But the fact remains. Only this week three ladies have been guilty of this most unladylike behaviour: and as I understand the 9ame trio claim to be the leaders of fashion — in fact, the aristocracy of Foxtou — I wonder what will come next. Foxton h«r.s been in the dirt through the actions of some of its public men . are the women now going to have a turn P I am, &c, Argus. Foxton, Ist May. P.b. —I enclose my card.
