» We are gratified to state that a move has been made in the direction of pushing on the above line, as will bo shown by the following letter, which was read at the meet* ing of the County Council : — Public Works Office, Wellington, Dacember 10, 1878. Sir— ln reply to your letter of the 2nd inst., I am diieoted by the Hon. the Minister for Public Works to inform yoa that instructions have been given te Mr J. T. i Stewart to lay off a part of the line at j Foxton, and the survey, if not actually now | begun, will be no in a few days, with a view to the work of construction being put in hand. 1 have, &c., J. Wo believe the work of survey has already begun, and that : an addition, to the survey staff has arrived from Taranaki, for the purpose of expediting tho work. It is very probable a " triul line," will Also be run out from the Falmerston end.
