The Electoral Hill passed the crucial test — the second reading — in the Legislative Council on Wodneaday uf;ci'iioou, by a majority of 25 to if. Ihe New Zealand Times, on Monday last, prophesied it -would bo thrown out by the Council. The wish, no ioubt, was father to the thought, but in this case has proved very far- frJin correct. Liberalism has taken a strong hold upon the Country, judging from the majority who voted in the Council for the Government measuie. Probably now the chief Bills are being passed through the Upper House, Parliament will be prorogued in less than a fortnight.
