YESTERDAY.
Hkuald Svecial— By Telegraph. Wellington, Thursday, 7 p.m. The Te Aro Reclamation Bill was shelved by report of commit-.ee declining to suspend the Standing Orders. The Hon Mr Macandrew informed the House that the railway north and south of Christchurch was injured by floods. Two spans of the Sangitata Bridge— l2o feet long — had been carried away. Free passes to volunteers or fire brigade men on duty are promised. The report on ths Electoral Bill has been brought up. The Hon Major Atkinson proposed that the bill be recommitted for consideration of clauses 5, 16, 18, and 24. The Hon Mr Stout opposed the recommittal as unnecessary, the matter having been fully debated. Mr M'Lean opposed the adoption of the report, because insufficient time had been given to consider the bill. A s amended, the bill had only been given to members that evening. The Hon Mr Gisborne thought the delay would be useless, as the third reading would be later on. The whole subject was then re-debated till 5.30 p.m., when the debate was interrupted. Mr Fitzroy asked tbe Government for return re Hinemoa asked for on 2nd August. The Premier said un. forseen difficulties had occurred in furnishing the return asked for, but no unnecessary delay would take place in completing it.
