POLICEMAN'S DAY OFF

If there were 76 more constables added to the present force of SCO* they could all get one day olf iv seven, stated Mr .Kellett (Dunodin iMorth) when the Police Estimates were considered to-day. He explained that the eon-stable?; only secured st day off even r 21 days.
Mr- Wilford. ex-Minister for Justice, supported Mr Kellett, remarking that lie could not introduce this leform when he controlled the Department because +he Force wa* down to 790 when tltey wanted 1000. There were times when in the whole of Wellington only three policemen paraded at night. The Hon. Air Lee replied that he had only just taken over the Department. He would hawe a look into the matter. He could assure the House that jk> would nofc go back upon the eight-hour day.
