WHITE AUSTRALIA
THE POLICY IN JEOPARDY
[Press Association.] (Revived Aug. 11, 9.15 a.m.) Si D>^l, Aug. 11. The Sun newspaper, in an article on tlno White Australia policy, states: "Ihe question whether the principuo of tho policy of a White Australia is in jeopardy must finally be answered by the end of the- year at the. conference in Geneva, when the Australian mandate in the Pacific is promulgated."
The paper states that secret diplomacy still precludes the pijjjlie from knowing all that happens 'between the Chancelleries, but there is the very best reason for .stating that Japan vei'y decidedly upon several occasions endeavored to render the White Australia policy abortive, and that she will undoubtedly attempt to destroy it again at Geneva, where the policy may be canvassed in a far more ■detached, and academic spirit. There will be a greater number of delegates with a greater number 01 votes% which may swing for or against Australia, and onco a, decision is reached Australia must either submit or break away from the League of Nations,
The Sun states tnat unless Ministers are able honestly to affirm the integrity of a White Australia policy it may be upset at Geneva. A delegation . should be' ■despatched to Geneva to urge the claims of a "White Australia policy.
