A MINISTER BAITED
THE GALLERIES AMUSED,
A brief wordy exchange Between the lion. W. INosworthy and some of the Labor members, with an occasional neutral jibe from the Opposition benches, amused the galleries m the Mouse- of Representatives (says tho Post) —indeed, sortie of the occupants of the public- gallery could not iof rain from involuntarily throwing in their excited contradictions. Mr jSosworthy drew the attack upon himself by repeating his previously-ex-pressed disgust of individuals who had endeavored to belittle New Zealand, and the housing conditions prevailing here, in the eyes of the cmi-, grating British public. The retorts of those, members who did not agree with him wero vigorous, but not new. "Poor baby, poor kiddy!" Mr P. Fraser could, be heard .shouting above the general din. The noise died down, but a. few minutes afterwards, baited by a facetious interjection, from. Mr Wilford, the Minister turned upon that member with a rejoinder that he did not need to go to America to get information to give the House, and a few other tilings; and Mr Wilford and other members promptly added to the wordy fray. Mr Gr. Mitchell, apparently annoyed at the Minister's expressed scorn of those who had hesitated to vote with the Government on certain occasions, developed superior vocal powers, "he incident served to send th^ gallery viisitoivs away smilingly to .supper.
