SCHOOL MEMORIALS.

The Minister for Education was asked by Mr Sidey if he would reconsider h,is decision .not to subsidise school memorials in connection, with the. great war in vieiw of the fact that the Education Department had formerly authorised a.: subsidy of £ for £, on the strength of which school committees had already entered into contracts on the faith of the Govern-" n.ent's promise. . The Hon. Mr Parr .replied that the subsidy system arose during the war, but grew to such an extent that he asked Cabinet for a definite policy on the subject. It was felt that it would be impossible to carry on this indefinite liability, which might run into tens of thousands- of pounds. However, he would give an assurance that where claims had been forwarded by school committees, or even whore they had taken action by raising money, he would bring the matter before Ca.binet with his favorable recommendation.
