ALARMING POLISH SITUATION.

NO LONGER A FIGHTING FRONT

(Th© Times Service.) BEUJLIN, Aug. 1. The Polish situation is alarming. The Reds are irresistibly advancing on the il)ast Prussian frontier. They captured the fortresses of Assowitz, Suwalki, and Lenza., and are now occupying the frontier towns of Eracwo, Szutzsehin, and Augustovo. A fighting front no longer exists. Ifivevytbing is in a state of dissolution. , Tiie correspondent found the last fighting front a scene of desolation. Tho Polish frontier guards had fled and everywhere was intense silence and desolation. The whole frontier ii; dominated by the Reds, who, immediately on the, German frontier, nre keeping up a regular artillery firo on the Polish rearguards. The Polish troops are fleeing panic-stricken; they discard everything.

A battle that will decide tho fate of the Polish northern army is pending in the vicinity of Lenzn. Tho inter-.AHied troops in tho East Prussian plebiscite area have been withdrawn. Allonstein's Italian battalion at Lyk lias been withdrawn, as it is not considered desirable to expose the Allied troops to a conflict with the Reels or Polos. Tho German frontiers are weakly guarded by police. The first detachment of Polish troops that crossed tho German frontier were immediately interned. Fugitives slate that

the Russian officers declare their ignorance of the armistice.
