The announcement of the armistice and the arrangements for the London Conference lias calmed public opinion, though it is believed that the Reds intend to protract negotiations until they have gained their intended objectives, including Lemberg. Allied diplomats a*nd Polish statesmen and generals aTe in close consultation to deoMe -on the best use of all resources to meet immediate danger in tho even* of a breakdown of the negotiations.
A cargo of rifles in the steamer Triton, which was held up at Dantzig for a week, arrived and were unloaded by British soldiers. Other cargoes of munitions are expected. Half-trained volunteers, singing patriotic songs, continue to march to the front, bxit the stations .are thronged with wealthy fugitives. The population is inclined to apathy. An official communique expressing satisfaction with the Allies' prompt realisation of the possiblity of the Bolsheviks' not wanting the armistice, ends: "Undoubtedly the Bolshevists want to "Bolshevise Poland, either by arms W diplomacy. They cannot compass 'this if the Allies support Poland, but there is danger of a great military movement." It is reported that the northern army is within the frontier. The Bolshevists are in communication with Germany through southern Lithuania and between Kovno and Suwalki, and have expelled the Lithuanian Administration from Vilna. The Red cavalry is in the vicinity of Lomsea, but Brest-Litovsk is still" in Polish hands.
It is understood that the Allies have no intention to allow undue delays in the armistice negotiations. Effective measures have been taken to prevent sporadic attacks on the capital, but wealthy people continue their flight.
